General Info
Adolescent period is a phase of transition from childhood to adulthood, encompassing physical growth, sexual development, emotional, and psychosocial maturation. The changes and conditions experienced during this period are of great importance for ensuring a healthy transition to adulthood. Various challenges may arise within the family, at school, and in social settings during this maturation process. For these reasons, health services provided to adolescents should be specifically tailored to this age group.
In our Adolescent Health Clinic, we provide assessments related to growth, general clinical problems, adolescent gynecology (pubertal disorders, delayed puberty, menstrual irregularities, excessive hair growth, polycystic ovary disease, vaginal discharge, sexually transmitted diseases, ovarian cysts and tumors, breast problems), eating disorders (anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, binge eating disorder, and others), and medical evaluations of obesity. Additionally, we address sports health, bone health, sexual development differences, sexual life and contraception, penile and testicular issues in male adolescents, varicocele, and evaluations of pubertal gynecomastia (breast enlargement).
One of the primary duties of adolescent clinics is to provide preventive health services. Therefore, any visit adolescents make to healthcare institutions, regardless of the reason, is considered an opportunity to deliver preventive health services.
In our clinic, adolescents receive preventive health services regardless of their reason for visiting. In this context, we utilize the HEADSSS format, a history-taking model specific to adolescents, which helps identify psychosocial risk factors. Additionally, we provide education on hygiene, healthy living and nutrition, physical activity, and sexual health.
We also address issues related to adolescents' coping skills (adolescents with chronic illnesses, those with parents who have chronic diseases, or parents with psychiatric pathologies), substance abuse, and behavioral problems, and make the necessary referrals.
