The children aged 0 to 18 years with kidney and urinary tract diseases are examined, treated and supervised.

The objective of Pediatric Nephrology Clinic is to diagnose renal disease in the early stages, treat thereof and prevent recurrence and development of chronic renal disease, namely renal failure, in children.This clinic also aims to survive children with terminal stage renal failure with peritoneal dialysis and hemodialysis and prepare them for renal transplantation.

In Pediatric Nephrology Clinic, following groups of diseases are examined, treated and followed up;

·         Renal Parenchymal Diseases

·         Glomerular Diseases (Acute and chronic glomerulonephiritis, nephrotic syndromes)

·         Tubulointerstitial Diseases (Inherited Renal Diseases, Bartter Syndrome etc.)

·         Cystic diseases of kidney (congenital or acquired)

·         Involvement of kidney by systemic diseases (vasculitis like Henoch Schonlein vasculitis, and Collagen Tissue Diseases such as systemic lupus erythematosis, juvenile chronic arthritis, familial Mediterranean fever)

·         Urinary tract diseases (urinary tract infections, vesicoureteral reflux, urinary tract stenoses, asymptomatic hematuria and proteinuria, daytime and nighttime voiding disorders, hypercalciuria, renal stones, renal tumors, fetal hydronephrosis and other congenital renal and urinary tract anomalies that are detected with ultrasound

·         Hypertension

·         Acute renal failure

·         Chronic renal failure.

Depending on the condition, patients are examined and treated at Pediatric Nephrology outpatient or inpatient clinic.

In our hospital, routine urinalysis is done and further blood and urine tests are analyzed at Biochemistry and Microbiology Laboratory.Further imaging methods, such as Ultrasound (Doppler), voiding cystouretography, intravenous pyelography, computerized tomography and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), are available at Radiology Clinic, while renal scintigraphy (DMSA, DTPA, MAG-3) is studied at Nuclear Medicine Department.

In our Clinic, renal biopsy, if required, can be done for differential diagnosis of Glomerular diseases, and specimens are analyzed by Pathology Department with specialized methods, including immunofluorescence microscopy.

In Pediatric Urology Clinic, Urodynamia and cystoscopy are done and patients who need to be operated on are assessed.

Follow-up of intrauterine fetal renal and urinary tract diseases, hydronephrosis and cystic renal diseases is started before the birth and the condition is diagnosed and treated in post-natal period.

Patients are regularly re-assessed at Pediatric Nephrology outpatient clinic during and after treatment period, should an appointment is scheduled.For patients with chronic renal diseases, treatment and dialysis program are planned, pre-transplantation preparations are made and treatment and follow-up are performed in post-transplantation period.
